Jeff Thompson Ukraine Update

20151009_155128 800x450-009In the below video, Mercy Projects President Jeff Thompson (r-side) shares about his January 2015 trip to Ukraine and some history to the on-going conflict in Eastern Ukraine. The message was given January 2015 in Murrieta, California. Jeff Thompson and his wife Paula started Mercy Projects (formerly Eastern European Outreach) in 1980 when they left the USA to smuggle bibles behind the Iron Curtain. Their exciting story told in the book “Leaving The American Sector” is available online at our website.

The conflict in Eastern Ukraine continues though it is mostly not reported on by the western media.  Jeff Thompson continues to travel to the war zone to work with pastors and missionaries there bringing the gospel to soldiers and the poor.  “I visit the war zone every few months and we continue to hear reports of attacks by separatist militia groups against Ukrainian army positions.  The Eastern Ukraine region under dispute is very small geographically but rich in coal mining and iron ore. This is the industrial heartland of Ukraine but also a very poor region.” Jeff said.

“The people there believe the Maidan revolution in 2014 in Kyiv was instigated by western “anti-Russian” foes.  They watch Russian television and believe the propaganda stories reported there.  Ukrainian Christians, however, are doing a remarkable job of meeting needs and sharing their faith despite the war and it’s hardships.” He continued.
